Punk Nouveau

As much as I crave independence, I simultaneously crave the security of being a five year old. Just to run around my backyard in my underwear, pretending I am Simba.

If I go insane, I've succeeded.

I Lie.

I take back everything I previously said about posting everyday. My life is just too consumed with mundane activity to attempt to write something vaguely interesting. For the last week or two I've been back and forth about what to post about and I've been gathering thoughts on possible topics.

I'll spend my next blog hour posting my ideas about what is perceived as reality, the idea of existence, and consciousness expansion either through natural means or by the use of mind-altering drugs. I will post experiences I've had with psychoactive drugs and how they have affected me so please, if you're going to be offended by my "drug talk" don't read it. I will not stop expressing my views and sharing my experiences so don't bother asking me to. With that said, I do urge anyone who reads to share their thoughts.

Stay tuned, or don't.

Get Over It

Remember "emo" music? When any fifteen year old kid that wore tighter pants than you or listened to Fall Out Boy was considered emo and could almost definitely be found at home, on any day of the week, slitting his/her wrists to the sounds of My Chemical Romance? Those were the days.

Recently, the famous Pete Wentz had his head shaved to signal the death of the "emo haircut" and it came as a huge relief to me. Not because I hated the haircut (I definitely sported one), but because to me it felt like a possible change in popular music. Don't get me wrong; I wouldn't be who I am now if I hadn't at one time listened to "Ohio Is For Lovers" multiple times a day. With that said, I feel like music can and will progress with the start of a the new decade. There is a new generation of kids to play to, and the music business will inevitably look for The Next Big Thing.

I mean, think about it: "60's" music. "70's" music. "80's" music. Get the idea? With each new decade, there is the need for change in music. Maybe not because of the new decade, but it does seem to work out that way. Don't take it from me, though; We'll find out soon enough.

Farewell "oo's" music.

Fun all the time

Dakota unknowingly foiled my plans for a post yesterday. Ah well, I needed time to gather thoughts... I plan on taking back what I said about posting daily, but it depends on how bored I get in the next couple days.

In other news, president Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize today. He's getting criticism, as usual, from folks that don't understand why he would win such an award. Granted, the president did say he didn't feel like he deserved the award, but viewed it as a "call to action to confront the demands of the 21st century". So for those who don't understand why our president would win such an award, the answer is this: This was not awarded for what president Obama has achieved politically thus far, but was awarded for the hope and optimimism generated by the way this man took office. This may not sound like enough to warrant a Nobel Prize, but it is just what we need. Not promises or victorious political campaigns, but hope. What we need right now, more than anything, is the feeling that things can get better. Yes, we fucked up, but things can get better if we want them to.

And things will get better.
